Genevieve Devries
Genevieve DeVries is a Michigan-based photographer who grew up in Argentina and originally pursued a career in technology. While working in the corporate world, she began taking photographs as a creative outlet and gradually built a business alongside her full-time job.
During the pandemic, Genevieve left her corporate position to spend more time with her two young children. At the same time, her photography work began to grow quickly, turning what had started as a side project into a full-time career. Over the past six years, she has photographed weddings, corporate events, families, high school seniors, and many other assignments throughout the Metro Detroit area.
Genevieve chose not to limit herself to a single photographic specialty. Her work across weddings, events, families, seniors, and professional assignments has taught her how to photograph in a variety of locations, work with both natural and available light, compose quickly, direct people who may be uncomfortable in front of the camera, and recognize candid moments as they develop.
She brings that practical experience to her teaching, helping students understand how the same fundamentals (light, composition, timing, communication, and observation) can be applied across many different types of photography.

I found the class informative as it reaffirmed my understanding of the exposure “triangle”. In my case, most of my opportunities stemmed from low light events (soft silhouettes, not crisp images). Considering this event was outside and very bright the images were different from my low light event. Genevieve’s feedback about LIGHT is key. Genevieve was very personable which made the class even more enjoyable.
