A Colorful Leap for Photo Storytelling

We’d like to offer a big congrats to photographer and publisher Ryan Kraus on the debut of his first full-color issue of New Paltz Photo Works! This bold 32-page photography newspaper showcases the work of 25 artists from coast to coast, all printed on a traditional newspaper press.

We’re thrilled to spotlight instructor Dave Rhodes and his immersive Wild Photo Adventure workshops! With over 30 years of photography experience, Dave brings a passion for hands-on learning, travel, and the natural world.

While he regularly teaches both group and private classes in Atlanta through Digital Photo Academy, he also leads unforgettable photography journeys through his own company, Wild Photo Adventure.

From June 25–28, you can join Dave Rhodes for an immersive and inspiring photography workshop set amidst the captivating ghost town of Bodie State Historic Park.

This workshop is tailored for both amateur and seasoned photographers seeking to refine their skills and capture the essence of this remarkable historical site.

Bodie State Historic Park is a genuine California gold-mining ghost town. Only a small part of the town survives, preserved in a state of “arrested decay.” Interiors remain as they were left and stocked with goods. The remains of Bodie are being preserved in a state of “arrested decay.” Today this once thriving mining camp is visited by photographers, howling winds, and an occasional ghost.

Participants will spend 3 full days photographing the Milky Way, star trails, amazing deserted buildings, wildlife, sunrises, and sunsets on this adventure.

Workshop Highlights:

1. Exclusive Access: Gain privileged access to Bodie State Historic Park before the park opens, with access to the interiors of the buildings, allowing photographers to capture the town’s unique charm—inside and out—without the crowds.

    2. Expert Guidance: Learn from Dave and his team of professional photographers who provide hands-on instruction, personalized tips, and guidance tailored to each participant’s skill level.

    3. Historical Insights: A private guide will offer insight into the rich history of Bodie, giving participants the chance to immerse themselves in the stories behind each preserved artifact as they photograph its authentic remnants.

    4. Scenic Opportunities: Explore Bodie’s well-preserved buildings, interiors, and captivating landscapes while uncovering the art of storytelling through the lens.

    5. Community Engagement: Connect and share experiences with like-minded individuals passionate about photography and history in this intimate workshop setting.

    6. Explore: Participants will also explore the Mono Lake South Tufa Preserve, photographing the spectacular “tufa towers”—calcium-carbonate spires and knobs formed by interaction of freshwater springs and alkaline lake water. The lake is a habitat for 1–2 million birds that feed and rest at Mono Lake each year. Wildlife, sunsets, and sunrises will be key photo subjects.

Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to capture the beauty and history of Bodie State Historic Park and the Mono Lake South Tufa Preserve.

Join Dave for an enriching photography workshop that will enhance your skills and create lasting memories.
