Welcome to the Atlanta market for the international network of live and online photo classes, all under the banner of Digital Photo Academy.

This section is devoted to our Atlanta photo workshops. The DPA Instructors who lead these workshops are professional photographers who have lived in Atlanta for at least 10 years, usually longer.

These pro shooters also have teaching experience and they love teaching. (Not all photographers do.) They know the local retailers where you can get the better deals on photo equipment and more importantly, they know where the best photo ops are which allows us to provide you with a rotation of interesting places to shoot, throughout the year, whether indoors or outdoors, winter, spring, summer or fall. Sometimes one time of day to shoot is better than another and our DPA instructors keep us informed.

About Our Atlanta Photo Workshop Venues

Often, the DPA Instructors even have private access to various locales in the city where they live. Themes vary from street photography and dynamic architecture, to flowers and landscapes, as well as waterscapes, sunsets, lush scenery and everything in between.

During one month, you might be invited to rendezvous in the luxurious natural light streaming in to a religious venue via spectacular stained glass windows and the following month, it might be a small relatively unknown park with very special landscapes. This is why we offer a special ALUMNI Discount to people who attend more than one workshop.

Nationally, we organize these workshops to provide variety for the participants in each local market, but we could not do it without the expertise and connections provided by the DPA instructors in each of those markets.

Phone the national headquarters of Digital Photo Academy at 1 877 372 2231 but know that each of the Digital Photo Academy markets includes a local office. In Atlanta, that office is at:

4517 Reva Way NE Marietta, GA 30066-2361

  1. It was great.
John and I got on well and I learned a lot about my camera.
    I am very pleased.

    Thanks
    Heather

  2. Session went great! Stan and I got along well and he helped me tremendously. Thank you very much for the help of connecting us.

He made some adjustments on my settings and showed me some great techniques. The bulk of my shots will be action or hitting a target that will not stay still. I will soon be getting Photoshop and Lightroom subscriptions to really up my photography game.

    • Here are some of the unedited shots I have taken since yesterday:

  3. The DPA team has to coordinate the DPA workshops across the whole country; which I imagine entails a lot of names. Your national office team members and the folks who teach where they live do a wonderful job. That’s why I keep coming back!

  4. Ken is aaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwesome!! Answered every question, I learned a bunch of information. Ken made me feel waaaaaaayyyy more comfortable with using my camera. I had so much fun leaning and applying everything I learned in the field. All of the things that I have been studying on my own Ken just helped me bring everything full circle. Breath of fresh air!

  5. I learned many things during this session and appreciated Nina’s instruction and creative inspiration.

I will pass on a couple of photos later in the week.

  6. Ken:

Thoroughly enjoyed the class and like the idea of the companion class–the camera is still going to intimidate for a bit so working in a “shoot_then_see_what_happened” teaching moment would be nice.

I have my camera with me at work today–even with the rain (wrapped in plastic bags!)–so am beginning the good habit.

And am eyeing lens hoods but you know how they never make it easy.

I walked through Piedmont Park on the way home so you may well be right that the everyday of the city is not so dangerous as its lesser moments!

Will expect to be meeting again at another class–if not March, perhaps later. Thank you again for all the tips and instruction.

(Taking a deep breath and telling myself I CAN get from the Canon to the photos I used to shoot!)

  7. The workshop went really well. I got a better understanding of a lot of stuff.

  8. Ken,
Thank you so very much for a phenomenal class! It was so enjoyable and extremely informative! You have ignited a photography fire in me! Your teaching style is truly remarkable.

Our aligned interests made the class that much more enjoyable. I’m looking forward to DragonCon! Thank you for sending that AMAZING photo at Oakland Cemetery as well!

I can’t wait for our next session – which I will be booking asap. I’ll have my “homework” with me of photos I’ve taken so you can critique them ☺️.

  9. I apologize for the delayed response to your last email. The week of Thanksgiving also brought a challenge with my dad who ended up in the hospital with pneumonia. He’s doing much better now and I’m catching up with everyone.

Thank you for the time you allowed me that day! I learned a great deal over the few hours we spent together, your expertise was very enlightening. And I appreciate the info on the tripod and grip, I will definitely look into it! I would love the opportunity to sit with you again in the near future. I would be happy to pay for another 2 hours. Let me know what works best for you.

  10. I am excited to use this knowledge you gave me. I actually picked up my camera after our class and was more comfortable with it. Now I just need to play with different lighting and settings.

Thank you again for taking time out of your weekend to teach me. I am excited to start this new journey in photography and hopefully more in Lightroom.

  11. It was an absolute pleasure. My wife learned a ton about her camera and how to set up and shoot a good photo. Very relaxed and she got Stan’s undivided attention for a very long time. Well worth the cost. I’m glad I found you guys.

    Thanks!
    Augustin

  12. Thank you, I really enjoyed my time and thank you again for everything you went over with me. I really appreciate your patience and kindness with all my questions

    – Sulma V

  13. We went over the settings on the camera and tried these out with a shot to note the effects. Stan showed tricks that alert areas of potential exposure or sharpness issues. I learned.

I am thinking of signing up for the Oct class at Oakland Cemetery.

    Thanks for following up.

    -kermit

  14. Hi Stan,

Thank you so much for braving the weather and having a great class yesterday! My dad said it was the BEST fathers Day gift – he learned so much! I’ve attached a few of my favorite photos from the class. I can’t wait to use my newly learned techniques in Greece! I’ll be sure to share some of those photos with you as well. Looking forward to taking more classes in the future. Thanks!

    • This class was very informative! The instructor, Stan, was very professional and knowledgeable. It was raining, but we made the best of it and still got some great photos. Would highly recommend!

  15. The instructors are top-notch!

  16. “The photography class last weekend was very good. Elton was very knowledgeable and shared many tips on how to improve my craft. I enjoyed myself and will be scheduling another session soon. Thank you”

    -Alicia

  17. “Everything from booking through and including the class was absolutely wonderful.”

    -Karen Brennan

  18. “Pleasure meeting you all today. Well, most of you 🙂
Here are some of my shots from today. Your feedback is most welcome and thank you Stan, for your excellent instruction. Please share any you guys got!”

    -Shawn

  19. “Stan, we had a great time and the location was awesome, inspiring and perfect for learning.

Thanks again for your time! ”

    -Harmony (and the girls)

  20. “I did attend the class with Stan Kaady and truly enjoyed it. I look forward to attending other classes as they become available. So please keep me in the loop. ”

    -Michael

  21. “Wow, Ken, I’m very grateful for the good feedback you sent me on my photos. I never expected you to take the time to tweak them or comment on each one. Thanks so much for the time you invested in our class and for these very helpful suggestions with examples! This is awesome. I’m not confident using brushes in LR, but I will definitely work to that end, now that I have seen the improvements that you applied with brushes. I’ll be researching more about how to apply these effects and then work at practicing in LR.

    AGAIN, many thanks!”

    -Cindy Spicer

  22. “Hello Elton,

Thank you so much for your time and instruction yesterday. Thank you also for braving the cold weather. I learned a lot that can be used for better photography. SPS will be visited after the holidays. I think there’s a lot that can be learned and hopefully, I have something to be shared with other photographers.

I seem to have gravitated mostly toward the leading lines and rule of thirds. An ND filter will be applied to see if the ghosts can be “run off” on the low light/longer exposures. That tip is greatly appreciated.

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday season.”

    -Bob Anderson

  23. “Hi Ken,

Great to hear from you, and thanks for the class! I had a good time, and I’ve attached my favorite shots. Any feedback you have would be much appreciated!

    Best,”

    -Michelle

  24. “I attended a class with photographer Ken Ross a few weeks ago. Ken was a fantastic teacher. We were on location at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. While there, Ken explained depth of field, f stop, aperture, etc. He took time with each student answering all questions, no matter how entry level, with a positive gracious attitude. He was very informative and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. He pushed us to think beyond the norm, and to develop our eye as photographers. He gave us new ways to look at the subject, and helped us expand our creativity. I look forward to taking more classes with Ken in the future.”

    -Rebecca Bozarth

  25. “Just a quick note to let you and others know what a great experience I had today during Stan’s photographic tutorial. I received 3 hours of 1:1 instruction from the functions of my camera and how to apply them in various compositions, settings and environments to tips and best practices of photography.

Stan took the time and attention to instruct based on my level of experience with the art as well as my familiarity of the equipment. I learned more in 3 hours than I have since purchasing my camera.

Thanks to Stan and Digital Photo Academy—I would recommend to anyone.”

    -Mitch Grimes

  26. “I really enjoyed the class and plan to take more classes in the future.”

    – Renee

  27. “I loved the class , looking forward to taking more of your classes, ( maybe on a cooler day). Thank you, the class was very informative”

    – Deborah Grayflowers

  28. “I attended Ken’s composition in the field class on a cold Saturday at the Botanical Gardens here in Atlanta. Ken was there ready to go despite the weather and stayed until he had answered all questions from the students. I have been working on shooting manual instead of automatic and he really helped with tips on the best way to do that.”

    Thanks for the help Ken,

    -Greg McFarland

  29. “It was a great experience with you during photography session held on last Sunday in Little Five Points. I got a good amount of tips and tricks during the session.

As we were discussing about photography community in Atlanta meets every month, Can you please provide details and venue of those. I would like to participate and wanted to more into the photography to improve my photography skills.

Once again thanks for you session and everything!!”

    – Bhaskar Nagendr

  30. “Nice shots! Thanks for a great workshop in the garden. I enjoyed meeting everyone and I certainly learned much during the three hours.

I’ve also attached a couple of shots from the session, both very similar in nature to Ken’s. I’d love to hear your thoughts.”

    – Ken Masters

    – J. Gary

  32. “I just wanted to sincerely thank you for the amazing class on this past Saturday at Piedmont Park. I really enjoyed it,and learned a lot of useful techniques for composition and also plenty about my very own camera. It’s amazing the things you ‘think’ you know until you ACTUALLY know.

I should add that I do plan to join the photog club you gave us info on, and also plan to take another class with (you) DPA in the near future. I’m still quite amateur in the field of photography but aspire to be great one day so I want to soak in as much information and get as much practice as I possibly can. Thanks so much, again! We’ll certainly be in touch.”

    – Josalin

  33. “I learned a lot on Sunday! And there’s still a ton more to learn, and to practice!

I met up with a friend afterward for lunch and took a few photos of him, and some art on the walls. He then posted that photo to Facebook and got over 100 “likes,” which he had never gotten that many “likes” before. It made me feel good!

Hope you’re having a GREAT week!”

    – Leigh

  34. “Thanks Jen the class was awesome, your tips have really been a great help and improved my pictures and understanding of taking manual shots.

Can’t wait to take my next class.”

    – John

  35. “I am attaching my favorite photos from our class this past Sunday. I had a great time and I am still so inspired and excited about getting out and using my camera more. Your enthusiasm is contagious, your patience appreciated and your willingness to spend time with each of us individually made this whole experience an enjoyable and learning one. White balance? Who knew!! I never gave it much thought…until now.”

    – Bridget Edwards

It was nice meeting everybody and I really enjoyed our little women group :)”

    – Erika

  37. “The Composition class this past weekend was great. The instructor Jen Kolb was excellent and very informed. The location worked out very well as there was a large neighborhood festival nearby with lots of potential subjects.”

    – Don Jackson

  38. “Thank you again for the most informative class today! Wow! Can’t wait for tomorrow to put it all into practice!”

    -Joan

  39. “Thanks again for a great class yesterday. I take a lot of training classes being in the technology business and your teaching style coupled with your knowledge and love of the subject makes you one of the best instructors I’ve had the pleasure of learning from.

I look forward to seeing you soon in a Field Composition class.

    Take care and safe travels”

    – Gary

  40. “Thank you so much, Jen! Hope to see you again, also, at one of your scheduled photo shoots! I was outside in the front yard yesterday about 4 p.m., using as much as I could remember (unfortunately, my notes were inside) from our class last Saturday…just taking lots of pictures of our new, little dogwood and serviceberry trees and a much larger, older dogwood (especially close-ups of its beautiful flowers), and our flowering pink azaleas…trying different settings, angles, etc. I think that most of them turned out well. I need to look at them online to know for sure, but I was very enthusiastic about taking the pictures and happy about almost all of them!

Jen, thank you for everything you have shared with me and taught me! You are the finest of teachers, EVER!

    Take good care.”

    – Rita

  41. “Thanks for the great class, Jenn!”

    – Lela

  42. “It was a fun informative day and luckily I got a couple of good shots”

    – Jeff Rose

    – Lee McDermott

  44. “Hi Jenn – I wanted to thank you again for such an awesome class on Saturday. I learned a ton. I was trying to tell my husband the one thing that I learned that was most impactful, and I couldn’t come up with just one! I am going to shoot “M” from now on and I hope I get to learn from you again someday. You are an awesome instructor; felt like the class was 1 on 1. Thanks again!”

    – Amanda

  45. “I really enjoyed the class and feel that I am more confident now. So step one has been achieved.”

    -Lisa

  46. “I just wanted to sincerely thank you for the amazing class on this past Saturday at Piedmont Park. I really enjoyed it, and learned a lot of useful techniques for composition and also plenty about my very own camera. It’s amazing the things you ‘think’ you know until you ACTUALLY know;)

I should add that I do plan to join the photog club you gave us info on, and also plan to take another class with (you) DPA in the near future. We’ll certainly be in touch.”

    -Josalin Hunter-Jones

  47. “I attended your beginner digital photography class instructed by Joel Silverman. I was very impressed with Joel and the content of the class. Joel was extremely accommodating, answering my numerous questions. I not only learned the technicalities of my camera, but also composition.”

    -Jill Delvalle

  48. “Just wanted you to know that I really enjoyed the 2 classes yesterday! I learned a great deal about my camera and I’m not “afraid” of it anymore. I’m sure I’ll see you in the advanced class once I familiarize myself more with what you taught us yesterday. Thanks so much.”
