Art Meier

Art Meier’s love for photography began on Long Island, New York, in 1977. A move further north to the Mid-Hudson Valley in 1979 expanded his artistic horizons, enabling him to create photography in a more artistic style. This was due to the beauty all around him, from the abundance of florals, landscapes, waterways, waterfalls, wildlife, and much more in the suburban outdoors. Not to be overlooked, there is also still life in the studio—another world of opportunity he found.

Art states that life behind the lens is a triangular process of creative opportunity, allowing light to dance on a scene with a future vision in mind. Since the revolution of digital processing, he has found that his creativity in photography has advanced beyond the darkroom more than ever before. This allows him to channel his passion and create results he hopes others will enjoy. Born in 1955, Art has witnessed many changes in the advancement of photography over time. He is proud to say that he owns the camera that took his childhood photos, along with an unused flash bulb for the camera.

As an art photographer, his first intention is to make a photo stand out not only in color and vibrance but also in a way that reaches the viewer’s mind and heart—hoping to touch their thoughts and feelings, whether in the present, a memory, or helping to create new ones. Often, Art will reduce color and clarity and add soft tones to the image and background to create a subtle mood that enhances the viewer’s experience. As he states, a bouquet of roses does not necessarily have to be in vibrant colors. However, he will sometimes use bold colors to draw the viewer’s attention to a particular focal point. His approach to art photography is to focus on the future results, as that is the key to a final image.

Art can be found hosting art galleries in the area, which also feature his own work. His work is available to view at artmeierart.picfair.com.
