Henry Gage
Henry is a wildlife photographer and field biologist from Toronto, Canada currently completing a PhD in ecology and evolutionary biology at Princeton University. A lover of animals since a young age, he began pursuing wildlife and landscape photography during his B.Sc. in Integrated Science at McMaster University.
As a photographer and scientist, Henry’s work bridges science and art, highlighting the beauty of species and landscapes that are also the subjects of scientific inquiry. He studies ecosystems in remote places, which offers opportunities to capture unique photographs across the world. Henry has travelled to photograph wildlife in Uganda, South Africa, Mozambique, Germany, Ecuador, and the Galápagos Islands, and led scientific expeditions to Africa and South America.
Henry’s approach to photography emphasizes observation—using knowledge of animals and their ecosystems, he aims to capture photographs that both instill emotion and highlight the ecological context of animals and landscapes. He is also a licensed drone pilot and experienced drone photographer.
He is a passionate instructor with a wealth of teaching expertise, having instructed five undergraduate classes, coordinated two mentoring networks, and mentored young photographers in the field. Henry has explored many of Toronto’s best photography locations and is keen to share his love of photography in the field.
