Venue Description:

Step into the timeless charm of the Japanese Tea Garden, an iconic gem in San Antonio. Originally a limestone quarry, this historic location was transformed in 1916 into a Japanese-style haven. Immerse yourself in the allure of stone bridges, a 60-foot waterfall, and lush floral displays. Your Digital Photo Academy instructor will lead you to endless photo ops and offer suggestions on composition strategies that yield portfolio worthy images.

There is a whole world of accessible composition strategies to practice at this garden. Utilize leading lines formed by the garden’s pathways and bridges to guide viewers seamlessly through the frame. Embrace the Rule of Thirds by placing key elements, such as the captivating waterfall or vibrant floral arrangements, along these grid lines for a balanced composition. Or, frame your shots within natural archways or pavilions to add depth and draw attention to the focal point.

You can even explore the contrast in textures, focusing on the variety of surfaces, from smooth stones to lush foliage. Enhance depth by incorporating foreground elements like flowers.

Admission is free. There is a free main parking area and additional overflow parking within a two minute walk to the Jingu House.
