Jeff Alltop
Jeff began his photographic journey in the late 1970s by taking photography classes in high school. He enjoyed bringing his photos to life in the darkroom and showcasing his work to his instructor and the rest of the class.
In high school, Jeff had to decide between pursuing technology or photography, and technology won out.
During his technology career at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Jeff learned scuba diving and began using his photography skills underwater. Underwater photography presents unique challenges, with difficult lighting conditions and constantly moving fish. Jeff has traveled to places like the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Belize, Aruba, the Cayman Islands, and Fiji, among others, for scuba and underwater photography.
After an abrupt pause in his technology career, Jeff began working in the retail photography industry, where he enjoyed helping customers with their photography questions and teaching them how to improve their skills.
Eventually, Jeff returned to a technology career, but the photography bug had bitten hard. He started photographing endurance events like marathons and traveled both domestically and internationally to cover these events. Jeff has photographed the Toronto Marathon, Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon, and countless smaller events. In addition to endurance events, Jeff also covers cheerleading and dance competitions, as well as graduations.
