John was bitten by the camera bug when he was 12 years old and went to Philmont, a 140,000-acre wilderness Boy Scout camp in New Mexico. That same year he was awarded a merit badge in Photography and became an Eagle Scout. Of course, it was a film and a 35mm camera then; but he mastered getting perfect exposures at an early age. John continued his love of photography through his 45-year career as a Circulation Guru in the magazine industry. Eventually, John went digital; and as his talents and technical skills evolved in digital, he began teaching workshops in Wildlife, Landscape, Creative Flower, HDR, and Creative Post Processing. His skills are epitomized in the compelling images shown in the slide show on this page. Take a look to be inspired.
John is a passionate teacher with an in-depth knowledge of composition and the skills required to produce stunning photographs. He’s great at inspiring veteran enthusiasts or helping a newcomer switch from auto to manual.
Of course, along with a life of taking pictures, John has made it his business to travel the world to capture compelling images. He has photographed in many locations including Africa, the Pantanal in Brazil, the Falkland Islands, British Columbia, Hudson Bay, Patagonia, Borneo, Galapagos, Equator, and over 50 locations in the US.
Crucial to the success of this workshop, John is no stranger to the Triple D. Having been there on numerous occasions, he is familiar with the staff, the animals, the locations and lighting conditions where the many species are photographed.
During the four-day workshop, John will cover the best technical aspects to use in taking good wildlife photos. He’ll discuss what makes a great animal photo and will also cover the best post-processing techniques. Most wildlife trips involve a lot of luck, but at the Triple D, they provide the best settings and best light where great photos are practically guaranteed.
When John is not traveling the world getting wonderful photos, he’s doing photography and teaching workshops at his Cape Cod summer home.
