Workshop Options:

In our Darkroom and Alternative Processes Workshops, participants will embark on an immersive journey into the intricate world of traditional darkroom techniques and alternative photographic processes. Under the expert guidance of acclaimed photographer Jill Enfield, you will delve deep into the art of handcrafting images using methods such as cyanotype and wet plate collodion.

Through hands-on experience, you’ll learn the step-by-step process of developing film, enlarging prints, and experimenting with various toning and manipulation techniques. Gain invaluable insights into the nuances of exposure, contrast control, and chemical reactions as you explore the magic of the darkroom.

Whether you’re drawn to the timeless elegance of black and white photography or the experimental possibilities of alternative processes, our workshops provide a unique opportunity to master these arts.

  1. Half-Day Workshop:
    • Duration: 4 hours
    • Price: $400 per person
    • Includes:
      • 4-hour workshop
      • Lunch provided

2. Full-Day Workshop:

    • Duration: 7 hours
    • Price: $650 per person
    • Includes:
      • 7-hour workshop
      • Two meals provided

Overnight Stay Options (Additional Cost):

Extend your stay to fully immerse yourself in the workshop experience.

The Digital Photo Academy National Headquarters offers accommodations for visitors who wish to stay for a day or longer (up to 5 days). The headquarters has separate bedrooms and basic amenities like beds, linens, and storage space for belongings.

Price:

    • Nights 1-2: $150 per night (Includes breakfast)
    • Nights 3-5: $125 per night (Includes breakfast)
    • Note: Prices are per night, per person, and are added onto the cost of the selected workshop option.

Flexibility Note: Participants have the flexibility to choose a mix of half-day and full-day workshops for up to 5 consecutive days while staying overnight, allowing for a customized learning experience tailored to individual preferences.

Travel Information:

The Digital Photo Academy headquarters is conveniently located just a 60-minute car ride or an 80-minute train ride from New York City’s Grand Central Station on the Metro North/Poughkeepsie Line along the picturesque Hudson River.

The headquarters are also accessible from a number of other northeastern cities and by air, with Stewart Airport located just 20 minutes away.

If you’re not driving to DPA headquarters, DPA management can arrange to collect and deliver you to Beacon train station, which is 10 minutes away. Ask us about other travel arrangements.

About Jill Enfield:

Jill Enfield, a renowned fine art photographer, author, and educator, is celebrated internationally for her expertise in Alternative Photographic Processes. With a family history deeply rooted in photography since 1875, Jill’s passion for old-world photography techniques is evident in her teaching.

With over a decade of proficiency in digital photography, she is also recognized for her instruction in hand coloring, wet plate collodion, and various other techniques at esteemed institutions such as Parsons The New School for Design, New York University, and the International Center of Photography.

Jill’s work graces the permanent collections of prestigious institutions worldwide, including The Amon Carter Museum of Art and The Toledo Museum of Art, while her commercial clients have ranged from National Geographic to Disney. She has authored three award-winning books on Alternative Photographic Techniques. Her publications, including “Photo Imaging: A Complete Guide to Alternative Processes” and “Jill Enfield’s Guide to Photographic Alternative Processes,” have garnered critical acclaim.

Raised in a family-run camera store in Miami Beach, Florida, Jill eventually relocated to New York City in the 1980s before settling in the Hudson Valley in 2014.

She continues to inspire and educate through her captivating imagery and workshops, often hosted at her historic home, a former gunpowder mill headquarters dating back to 1828, nestled in the picturesque landscapes that inspired the Hudson River School painters.
