Venue Description:

Capture the beauty of coastal Los Angeles in this hands-on photography workshop, designed to help students better understand how to see and compose images in different environments. Each location offers a distinct setting, allowing you to practice key skills in a clear and focused way with (all with supervision, guidance, and instruction from a pro Digital Photo Academy instructor!)

The session begins at the Point Fermin Lighthouse, where open ocean views and coastal light create a wide, natural landscape. Here, students will focus on building strong, balanced compositions. Your instructor may guide you in placing the horizon carefully, simplifying the scene, and using foreground elements like paths, fences, or plants to add depth without making the image feel cluttered.

From there, the group moves to the Korean Bell of Friendship, which introduces a more structured, architectural setting. The bold shapes and detailed design make this a good place to work on symmetry, framing, and alignment. Your instructor may show how small changes in position can improve balance, and how to handle bright light so that both highlights and shadows keep their detail.

The session ends at a nearby basketball court, offering a simpler, more graphic environment. With strong lines and open space, this location is ideal for practicing clean compositions. Students can focus on shapes, patterns, and perspective, and learn how to find strong images in everyday scenes.

Throughout the workshop, students will practice adjusting their approach based on the environment—moving from wide landscapes to detailed architecture to simple, graphic compositions. The goal is to build a clear understanding of how to organize a scene, work with different lighting conditions, and make more intentional choices when taking photos.
