Tree Tops Park
Tree Tops Park
Join our photo lessons at Tree Tops Park, which is one of the excellent locales in the rotation of many Miami venues that offer terrific photo opportunities.
Venue Description:
Located in Davie in Broward County, Tree Tops Park spans over 240 acres of preserved landscape, including freshwater marsh, wooded trails, open fields, and elevated boardwalks. Originally slated for development, the land was restored and is now one of the area’s most varied natural environments, making it especially well suited for a photography class centered on nature and landscape work.
This setting offers a range of scenes within walking distance: expansive marsh views, tree-lined paths, textured grasses, water reflections, and elevated perspectives from the observation tower. The diversity of terrain allows students to practice organizing natural elements into clear, intentional compositions.
One of the park’s most distinctive features is the elevated boardwalk through 23 acres of restored freshwater marsh. Here, your instructor may demonstrate how the wooden planks and railings can function as leading lines, guiding the viewer’s eye into the frame while anchoring the composition.
Along the nature trails, students can work on simplifying busy organic scenes. Your instructor may focus on foreground-to-background relationships, showing how grasses, branches, or pathways can create depth and spatial layering. Small adjustments in camera height can significantly change perspective—either emphasizing texture in the foreground or opening up the landscape for a broader environmental view.
Open marsh areas and water features provide opportunities to explore reflection and balance. Students may practice positioning horizons carefully to maintain stability in the frame and using natural negative space (such as sky or open water) to prevent compositions from feeling crowded.
Students may also encounter opportunities to photograph wildlife, equestrian trails, or subtle human elements within the environment. Your instructor can guide you in deciding when to include these elements to add context and scale without distracting from the primary subject.
Throughout the session, practical camera considerations such as exposure in bright open areas versus shaded trails, focus techniques for depth, and lens choice for wide versus tighter compositions may be addressed in real time as scenes change.
The walking route can remain flexible depending on group interest and comfort level, while still covering a variety of natural settings within the park.
