Ascot Hills Sunset Shoot
Ascot Hills is 5 minutes from downtown LA with some great photo ops, especially at during sunset. The workshop begins a couple of hours in advance of sunset for your DPA instructor to discuss a variety of photo strategies from pre-sunset lighting to sunset and blue light post sunset. Each offer their own special advantages.
There are a number of approaches for capturing the city skyline during each lighting condition, culminating to the setting sun and just after, street and office building lights twinkling. Try them all and decide which best fits your signature style of making photographs.
Choices range from depicting the city skyline well off into the distance, to a closer focus on the skyscraper silhouettes. For a more edgy sensibility, your DPA instructor knows of a vacant area where you can frame the metropolitan center with a barb wire accessorized chain-link fence.
This workshop also allows you to hone in on landscape photography amid the green hills of Ascot Hills. Your DPA instructor will help you consider a variety of composition approaches, from Rule of Thirds with the scene dominated by the sky or maybe a more symmetrical approach where the greenery is the main element of the story.
If you have a tripod that would be helpful but there are other ways to stabilize your camera for longer exposures as advised by your DPA instructor.
Wear comfortable shoes for the 10 minute hike of modest incline. Also park on the street because the parking lot gate closes at sunset when you will be getting some photos in blue light which might be your favorites.
The entrance is located at 4371 Multnomah St, Los Angeles, CA 90032. Park on the street as the gates will be closed at sunset. Meet at the entrance gate.

Lots of people seem to hang up if our welcome recording comes on instead of a live voice, but we promise to return your message within a day or two if you leave one with your name and number. It would be even better if you included your e mail address as well as the date and city of the class you are considering.
