With over 20 MILLION blooming daffodils expected, you might agree that a photo workshop at Gibbs Garden is more than a terrific photo op even though it is a bit of a jaunt from Atlanta, about 45 minutes or so. Yes, 20 million blooming daffodils but there will be other landscape and floral scenes to capture. Amidst the 200 acres of Jim Gibbs’ property you can expect blooming Cherry Blossoms, ponds, creeks and cascading waters running underneath picturesque foot bridges. In the Grandchildren’s there is a collection of charming sculptures, one for each grandchild. There is also a Japanese Garden including a Torri Gate and there are gazebo’s peppered throughout the property that border scenic trails and various hills and gardens.

The subject matter at Gibbs Gardens is more than colorful and an ideal vehicle for your DPA instructor to demonstrate and supervise an array of composition strategies. Line your lens up along a row of daffodils for a Leading Line composition and any viewer of your image will be drawn into the frame at a specific corner and then follow from point to point of the image and back again, round and round.

Highlight a single flower and blur the background with your Aperture Priority or take a panoramic composition approach to capture a blaze of colors and shapes, reminiscent of an impressionistic painting. Try comparing a Rule of Thirds composition on the main subject of the image to a center display and make your own choice as you develop your own signature style of picture taking.

Operate your Shutter Speed priority on any of the cascading waters to capture a crystal clear rendition of the flowing waters in STOP DEAD IN ITS TRACKS or instead, use a slower Shutter Speed to render a velvety smooth capture of the waters in flow.

The 3 hours at Gibbs Garden is worth a trip even without your camera but of course you will bring it. Monopods and Tripods are also allowed should you choose to carry one along. The composition lessons conveyed in this workshop will be useful for every photo activity in your future, whether family gatherings, travel experiences, neighborhood photo essays and everything else.

Lots of people seem to hang up if our welcome recording comes on instead of a live voice, but we promise to return your message within a day or two if you leave one with your name and number.  It would be even better if you included your e mail address as well as the date and city of the class you are considering.  If leaving a voice mail message is not your thing, please email us at DPAbooking@digitalphotoacademy.com.
