Photographer Tom McKenzieI am an editorial / commercial photographer. I live in Michigan, work everywhere, which is both good and bad. Good because I am in the middle, which means I can get anywhere in the country in a timely manner. Bad, I used to say the we have the Lions but that has even changed now. A big advantage of being near Detroit is that I’m less then 6 hours by car to places like Chicago, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and everywhere in between. The airlines can’t always make that promise!

A non-traditional means of becoming a photographer, 10 years in the US Navy, student at Southern Illinois University, Working calibration / repair while running a photography business locally, various assisting, and the super experience of back to back years at the Santa Fe Work Shops, studying under Andrew Eccles and Frank Okenfels 3, have given me an advantage of interacting with all kinds of people, and experiencing many different types of environments, seeing the beautiful things they offer, and the ability to inject those qualities into my portraits. Relating with people is what makes a great picture, and my past makes it a little easier for me to do just that.

Lots of people seem to hang up if our welcome recording comes on instead of a live voice, but we promise to return your message within a day or two if you leave one with your name and number.  It would be even better if you included your e mail address as well as the date and city of the class you are considering.  If leaving a voice mail message is not your thing, please email us at DPAbooking@digitalphotoacademy.com or Richard@digitalphotoacademy.com.

  1. The class that was offered was very rewarding, it allowed me to get more familiar with my camera and usage. The class was an excellent and the size was also good to allow to us to ask questions. I had never used my camera to take monochrome pictures. It was different, but yet beautiful. I like the look! I have included some pictures that I took. I also plan to start posting on you website for Facebook. Thank you and Thank you to Tom, for he was an amazing and experienced teacher.
