Covid is a global issue and varies, city by city, even day by day, here across North America, but we want you to know that you can enroll in workshops, currently posted for six months beyond the current month and updated on a monthly basis since 2006. (Founded in 2006, this format of updating new group workshop locales, times and dates have always been handled in this same manner. Should you require a private workshop, our professional photographers who lead group sessions in the community where they live, can accommodate PRIVATE WORKSHOPS on any photo topic and meet up with you and your guests on any day of the week that suits your schedule and locale selected within our active communities.) We can conform to your priorities.
As any workshop you select approaches, please know that we will adhere to the Covid social distancing directives relevant to your local community at that time, as they apply to the coronavirus, allowing you to receive a total refund or the chance to reschedule with no penalty fee no matter how long you require to make your rescheduling decisions. The workshop exceeded my expectations. Taku was excellent! And I was thrilled of his connections to Nikon. He helped me tremendously with settings on my Nikon camera helping me ensure I am using the correct ISO, F-Stop Aperture and Shutter Speed. Truly a joy to spend a morning at a beautiful park receiving his expert recommendations for photography as well as explaining the finer details of my camera. I was also thrilled Taku has the same model of camera as mine, which made the whole workshop that much more of a true hands on experience. Thank you so much for your help, Richard and Taku. Much appreciated.
Thank you, Taku. I had a lot of fun.
Sharing a few of my favourite photos from the day.
It was nice to take pictures in a group, it makes me feel I stand out less…
Here are a few of mine.
elsie was very knowledgeable and made the session enjoyable. highly recommended to get started in photography
Really enjoyed my session with Leanne on Saturday. Finally understand the settings on my camera.
Here is a photo.
I just want to thank you for the time and patience on Saturday. I certainly learned a lot and can’t wait to continue to practice my photography skills. You were an amazing teacher and the atmosphere you created in guiding us was very warm and endearing. I had a fantastic time!
This class was amazing! It was everything I wanted and more. It was super informative and fun. I could not recommend it more!!!!
“Thank you, Taku, for your professional Composition in the Field workshop yesterday, Victoria has learned a lot during your 3+ hours session..She liked it, and hopes to have more chances to learn more in Digital Photo Academy in the future.”
“It was a great day and Taku was a really patient instructor. Gave me just the right amount of information to focus on so the day wasn’t overwhelming. If you’re new, like me, I highly recommend taking the Master Your Camera Controls class first. You’ll definitely get more out of the Composition in the Field workshop. I did, and it was the best investment I could have made!”
“Richard and the staff at Digital Photo Academy was kind and helpful when I booked my session and then had to reschedule. We had a good group and Taku, the instructor great. Thanks to Taku for your instructions, guidance and the thought of looking at my world in a different way. I even took a different route home in order to capture more of my world.”
“Thank you Richard and Taku for a wonderful photography experience! Certainly, we all braved the weather!I’m so glad I was able to participate – I definitely walked away learning some key tips and ideas, and which camera would best suit my lifestyle. I highly recommend this workshop for anyone looking for a fun, interactive and explorative experience. I love connecting with new people, and such experiences are a great opportunity!”
“Hey guys, thought I’d share some captures from Saturday.
Thanks again Taku for your patience with us beginners, and some below beginners :)”
“Taku, thanks so much for the great tips during both classes yesterday! I feel that I have a better idea now of how to position things in the shot to have a more effective outcome.
My dad and I walked away with some great pictures, and more extensive knowledge of how to use the various settings on our cameras.”
I really enjoyed today’s workshop. Taku was very helpful in showing us how to take interesting photos and providing feedback on the pictures we took. I learned a lot from him in the three hour session today!
Taku: thank you for everything! ”
The class was very good. Taku is a talented and patient teacher. For me Saturday was about practicing with my new camera. Its always good to go out with other photographers and I learned a few things about composition. ”
“Hi Richard, I really enjoyed my day, I still have a lot to work on. My screen on my camera was hard to see the pictures, so needed to delete a lot after viewing them at home. Unfortunately I love the sailors picture, however disappointed that I did not see at the time that I cut part of his arm off.
Will be looking to take another class to improve.
Thank you so much”
The class on Saturday was awesome. It was my first ever photography class and I loved it. Thanks to Taku for being such a helpful instructor with loads of patience. When we were by the water, there was a lot of glare, so it was difficult to see what I was shooting. When I got home, I had to scrap some shots because of that.
I love how there is so much experimentation I can do now. I also look forward to taking more classes!”
“I enjoyed learning about the camera before the camera shoot. It has opened up the camera’s features to me and made me much more confident and relaxed with it when photo situations arise.
“The class was good. learned a lot. i just need practice now. ”
“Good morning Richard,
Our workshop was amazing, Taku was great we had a great time and learned a lot. I only used my iphone, it was a gift for my fiancé to learn to use his camera better as he used photo and video a lot in our training studio to promote the business. I will get a hold of the camera tonight and download images to share. Thanks for checking in! I will be sure to share our feedback on the site”
“Thank you so much Taku,, I had a great time and learned a lot !
The picture is amazing I love it!!!!!!!
With gratitude and respect”
” Thanks we are very happy that we did attend the training and was blessed to have an instructor like Taku who had so much patience with us and we learnt so much in the time we had. Lots of what we were told were some things that we took for granted and pointed ion the right direction not we can walk around with our cameras and feel good. I did some photos on the website for you and everyone to see. Thanks again guys and keep the good work up.”
“Sanja was a wonderful teacher – she was patient and very encouraging and put me at ease so I felt comfortable and confident using my camera and experimenting with different subjects, angles and settings. She explained everything simply and clearly, and stuck with me until I got the concept. She showed me both how to use the camera settings for different purposes using practical exercises, as well as how to tell a story with the right shot. Over our three hours she was creative in finding lots of interesting subjects with different technical challenges. I started out with very little DSLR experience and was taking great shots by the end of the afternoon. Also had a lot of fun! Would recommend.”
Thank you for a very enjoyable class. I look forward to more photo classes with you in the future and I will invite some friends next time. Here are some of my favorite photos we took last week.”
“Just wanted to let you know that my daughter and I very much enjoyed the workshop with Sanja. She kept it fun and informative and we appreciated her effort and encouragement.”
Amanda Gibbs here. Thanks so much for the course this past Saturday, I learned a ton about proper composition, where/how to crop properly, and how to capture the same image from different angles. I’ve also attached my favourite photos from the day, hope you like them!”
“Thank you very much for such a wonderful class on Saturday, I had a lot of fun.”

“First, let me tell you how much I enjoyed our workshop last Sunday. I learned a lot and left hungry to learn more. That’s a great combination!
You have a wonderful ability to circulate amongst your students, (and we were a large group of 12) and both critique and praise. You kept theory to a minimum but gave sufficient direction for us to practise different techniques in the class. I found that I could hear your words when I reviewed the 172 pictures that I returned home with. I was able to see which were bad, and which made me quite proud. Thank you for that!
On another note, if you are able to make this possible I think that the models might like to see the portraits that were taken. Some, I think were exceptional. I know that I personally would very much like to see them. You may certainly give out my e-mail to anyone. (as belonging to the older lady with the blue hat 🙂 )
I am sending you 5 of my favourites in this e-mail and will attach the next 5 in a second e-mail. (Not sure how many g-mail can transport at one time. Do let me know if this works.
Once again, thank you for a great workshop!!”

“The class was really fun! It is my first ever official photography class. I deposited my pictures into Dropbox. I can share the folder with you!
Thanks for creating this academy!”
“Attached are some of my photos. I am heading out on a 6 week solo trip through Southeast Asia and I feel much better prepared for using my camera more effectively now. I was always fine with finding angles I like, but I really enjoyed getting to know more about the different functions on the camera. Thanks for the lessons!”
– Kelly Muir
“Once again, thanks for your expertise and advice on our photo course last Sunday.”
– Dale Crawford
“Thanks for a great day – you have taught me to have people in my pictures as they do in fact tell a story”
“Again, thanks for sharing your knowledge and the tips you emailed.”
“I enjoyed our outing. you are a good teacher. and i am sure you are a talented artist!
maybe we can collaborate on some film projects of mine!”
